  • Overview

    The Director, Ethics & Compliance -- EMEA will be responsible for the continued implementation, maintenance and promotion of the Cook Global Ethics & Compliance Program in the EMEA Region. The Director will function as an objective resource who reviews and evaluates ethics and compliance concerns within the Region in order to prevent or detect/correct noncompliance with the written standards applicable to Cook’s business activities in the EMEA region. 

    The Director will coordinate the work of the teams involved in Ethics & Compliance (E&C) at Cook Ireland, William Cook Europe and Cook entities across EMEA.

    Reporting to: Vice President, Global Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer with dotted line reporting to the Executive Vice President EMEA, Cook Medical


    Primary:  Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of the organisations’ diverse business activities and the elements of the Global E&C Program.

    • Leadership and Accountability
      • Proactively provide oversight, assistance and support in the implementation of global and regional E&C programming in EMEA including anti-corruption, international trade compliance, transparency reporting, funding and the Records Management Program.
      • Manage and coordinate the work of direct reports.
      • In collaboration with the Global, Regional, and Local E&C teams, be responsible for identification and timely completion of E&C projects.
      • Facilitate the consideration of Cook’s Global Code of Conduct in business matters carried out on Cook’s behalf.
      • Provide support, information, advice and assistance to Cook individuals and groups within EMEA.
      • Engage with MedTech Europe, Mecomed and other trade associations to which Cook belongs and ensure representation on working groups where prudent.
      • Prepare E & C program status updates for use in executive quarterly entity updates for Cook Ireland and other executive reports as requested.
    • Written Standards
      • Assist Global E & C team in drafting revisions of the Code of Conduct, policies and guidance, processes and programmes and help maintain a Business Policy Management System.
      •  Research, and communicate direction for compliance with local laws and guidance for the countries in EMEA in order to resolve questions, problems, or concerns, seeking the advice of Legal Counsel when appropriate.
      • In communication, coordination and alignment with the global and regional E & C teams, work with relevant management teams to create, implement, monitor and amend Company policies and initiatives.
      • Draft, review and provide input regarding written standards in alignment with the Global E & C Programme.
    • Education and Training
      • In collaboration with the Global E & C team, design, coordinate and ensure that targeted, relevant, timely and effective E & C training is conducted in EMEA on an ongoing basis.
      • Conduct and otherwise implement best methods of training and education for Cook plant and field based employees and, as needed, distributors in EMEA. 
      • Participate in professional development and update job knowledge related to healthcare industry ethics and compliance matters personally and encourage other E & C team members throughout EMEA to do so, as well.
    • Communication and Awareness
      • Create, maintain and coordinate appropriate guidance, education, training, and regular communications related to the E&C Program for plant and field based employees, vendors, and distributors in alignment with the Global E&C Program.
      • Ensure that updates to communications about local and regional laws and guidance are provided to the relevant parties when changes occur.
      • Provide requested reports, metrics and data analytics to the Board Oversight Committee, the senior regional management team and the CECO.
      • Attend relevant meetings throughout the region to maintain an awareness of current and future business activities and provide E&C perspective and advice.
      • Participate in global and regional Ethics & Compliance annual meetings and in monthly global and North America/EU calls.
    • Monitoring and Auditing
      • Conduct periodic risk assessments in coordination with the E&C risk assessment plan.
      • In coordination with the Global E&C Team and relevant functional advisors, develop EMEA-specific monitoring and auditing plans.
      • Coordinate with internal and external auditors as requested.
    • Investigation and Response
      • Provide oversight, assistance and support as needed regarding Helpline matters, investigations and investigative responses as requested by Legal, HR and E&C globally.
    • Ongoing Program Improvements
      • Collaborate with Cook E&C professionals in the Americas and APAC to ensure programme consistency and share best practices.
      • Work closely and collaboratively with Cook Legal, Distribution Channel Management (DCM), Customer Support and Delivery (CSD) and the Divisions (sales) to monitor and implement E&C Program improvements.



    • Third level qualification in law or relevant discipline  
    • Experience working in a role which requires management of compliance to standards, laws or regulatory requirements.
    • Willingness to take on new challenges and provide leadership.
    • Ability to lead and develop a team.
    • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills with a track record of developing strong working relationships globally and with business partners.
    • Experience designing and delivering training.
    • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills and organisational skills
    • Excellent written, presentation, communication and investigation skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel, is essential.
    • Willingness and availability to travel on company business to all Cook entities in the EMEA region and internationally, to provide/receive training and participate in internal and external meetings.
    • Ten years’ experience preferred.
    • Medical device or Pharma experience preferred.
